Sorting the Remark Shelves and the Repair Shelves

REMARKS AND REPAIRS

I check all the items on the remark shelves to make sure they don’t need repairing before moving them to the REMARK (waiting to be remarked) shelves.

Any remark items that need repair or items that are on the REPAIR shelves should be:

Charged to book repair 899100577/0083 and placed on the shelves indicated in room 75.

OR

Place the items on a truck by my desk (if we have the spare trucks) and charge to book repair 899100577/0083.

Rush REF Stiffening can be done by Ruth or Thomas . . . if the item to be stiffened has information on the inside front/back covers, photocopy the information on acid-free paper (on the red truck in front of my cubical) and give the book and copies to Ruth or Thomas . . . they’ll do the stiffening for you, no problem.

Damage to look for:

• Torn Spines

• Broken Hinges

• Torn, loose or missing pages

• Loose Book Blocks

• Loose Hinges

Sorting Monographs (hardback and paperback) & Making Binding Decisions on Paperback Monographs

Shelf Sorting: Paperback and Hardback New Monographs

RUSH/NOTIFY/RUSH FOR RESERVE/SPECIAL COLLECTIONS (with dust jackets)

Check the rush shelf several times a day. Items that should go directly to the RUSH truck are:

1. hardback and paperback RUSH or Notify items

2. hardback and paperback REF RUSH items

3. hardback RUSH RESERVE items (rush stiffen paperback RUSH RESERVE items: Ruth and Thomas)

4. Special Collections hardback items with dust jackets. Leave dust jackets on items. Label both the book and the dust jacket (2 labels total).

CATALOGING MONOGRAPH SHELF (and Security Stripped ACQ-PP items)

HARDBACK MONOGRAPHS:

Place all Ellis General Stacks and JUVENILE hardback monographs onto the same truck. Park the truck by the spare desk and flip the sign to New Monographs and Scan/Edit. Move the truck to the Scan/Edit Station when the top two rows of the truck are full. Scan/Edit: Courtney or Ruth.

NOTE: These items ARE destined for the new book list and new book shelf.

HARDBACK MONOGRAPHS (Branch, REF hardback & paperback, SPEC except RARE, WEINBERG, COMIC, etc.):

All new monographs except Ellis General Stacks and JUVENILE place on a second truck. Park the truck by the spare desk and flip the sign to New Monographs and Scan/Edit. Move the truck to the Scan/Edit Station when the top two rows of the truck are full. Scan/Edit: Courtney or Ruth.

NOTE: These items ARE NOT destined for the new book list and new book shelf. REF paperback items should be placed on this truck. RARE & COMIC should be immediately redirected to Special Collections.

PAPERBACK SORTING (All except RARE, COMIC, WEINBERG, REF):

NOTE: RARE & COMIC should not come to Physical Processing. Immediately redirect the item to Special Collections. REF paperback items should be placed on the hardback monographs to be labeled. Leave the barcode on the barcode card.
