New Book List and New Book Shelves
The purpose of the new book list is to inform students, faculty and staff of the Ellis Library new books (monographs) that have recently been added to the collection and are ready for circulation. The new book list can be found online at:
http://mulibraries.missouri.edu/newbooks/default.asp
This online list represents the books that can be found on the New Book Shelves (located directly across from the Circulation Desk) during any given week.
Every Wednesday, the previous week’s “New Books” are removed from the new book shelves by Circulation and delivered to the Shelving department to be placed in the Ellis General Stacks. Physical Processing maintains the New Book website; archiving the previous week’s books and creating/ transferring the current new book list to the website. Once this is done, Physical Processing delivers the current new books to the New Book Shelves.
When a new book (monograph) is ready for circulation, Physical Processing Staff scan the barcode and save the item record information into the Millennium Label Queue. The information saved in the label queue can be copied into a review file and manipulated to create the New Book list. After being scanned into the label queue the book is sorted, in rough call number order, onto the Physical Processing New Book Shelves.
Items eligible for the new book list must meet the following criteria:
1. They must be books (monographs)
2. They must be shelved in Ellis Library General Stacks. Note: new government documents (DOCS) items, delivered to the Physical Processing “New Book Shelf Documents” Shelf, are also included.
3. They must circulate (Status Not Checked Out). This means they can be checked out by patrons.
Items that are not eligible for the new book list are:
1. Periodicals: Loan period is too limited and they aren’t considered books (monographs).
2. Special Collections (monograph or periodical): Non-Circulating (items can’t be checked out to patrons)
3. Reference (monograph or periodical) items: Non-Circulating (items can’t be checked out to patrons)
4. Non-Circulating items that are housed in Ellis General Stacks but can’t be checked out my patrons. Represented by a “Library Use Only” sticker by the barcode and on the outside cover/spine. Processing Note: These items will have a Non-Circulating Streamer.
5. Reserve Items: Loan period is too limited.
6. Branch items (ENGR, GEOL, JOUR, MATH): These items are shelved at a different location. They are sent to the various branch libraries.
