All,
We are now using new ITYPES for government documents in the Ellis Gov Docs collection. The new ITYPES will allow the material to circulate to other MERLIN libraries. Please begin to use these immediately for material in the Ellis Gov Docs collection. We’ll be running lists in the Cat Dept to catch ITYPES that don’t get changed, because we know it will take awhile to get the hang of this. The MARCIVE profile was changed awhile ago, so hopefully the MARCIVE records are already correct.
New:
171 > Serials (Gov Docs requestable)
172 > Periodicals (Gov Docs reqstable)
173 > Software (Gov Docs requestable)
174 > A/V (Gov Docs requestable)
175 > Sound (Gov Docs requestable)
176 > Microforms (Gov Docs requestable)
No change:
0 > Monographs
11 > Maps
We will be extending the use of these ITYPES to government documents in other collections, too. This will include the Ellis circulating collection, branches, and UMLD. We will use them for state, national, other countries, and international government documents. I’ll let you know when we’ve changed the ITYPES for these materials which are already in MERLIN. We’ll begin using them for new material in other locations then.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We haven’t updated all our procedures yet, but that will happen soon.
